The American Academy of Dermatology (AAD), the largest dermatologic organization in the world, places high value on patient education and explored engaging ways to provide this information to patients and caregivers of all ages. The creation of a new website, Kids Skin Health, was one of the avenues through which it sought to engage patients.
Prior to launching the site, AAD wanted to ensure it was usable for both parents and children alike.
User Centric spent two days conducting a usability study with parent-child dyads in individual sessions. Each participant had an opportunity to interact with a prototype of the Kids Skin Health website and provide feedback. Following the individual sessions, the parents and children participated in separate focus groups where they were encouraged to provide additional feedback on the website.
User Centric collected and analyzed the qualitative data and presented AAD prioritized recommendations for the content organization to enhance the website’s usability. Our team also highlighted a number of usability issues based on best practices for website design
As a result of the usability test, AAD was able to learn about their users’ needs to make navigating the site easier and encourage use of its resources to engage children and adults as they seek valuable information about skin care.
